My ex got dumped by his boyfriend

My ex just got dumped by his boyfriend of 5 years. I’m his only other ex and his latest ex was like the 3rd person he ever went on a date with.

He might not even be interested in dating me again, but I inevitably think about if I could even date him.

He is one of the few people I can trust to never leave me and who will take of me very well. He is relatively well off and an extremely stable, strong person.

However, our personalities don’t align in the sense that he doesn’t entertain and value interesting ideas like I do. We both would exhaust each other trying to have a fun conversation. That’s a big deal. And his mom seems like she’s very intent on people not being lazy (at least she calls it out very plainly). And I’m fucking lazy. Daren would want to live with him mom and take care of her, and that’s why his ex broke up with him.

The question arises: is being taken care of more important than freedom from judgment and fun convos with an SO?

I very early on answered this question by not dating Daren, but it’s something I can’t help revisiting. Because I’ve seen how rare it is to find someone so stable, dedicated, hardworking, and generous as Daren.
